How does this work?

The script you are reading was mostly generated by a machine learning model (GPT-2).

I trained GPT-2 on the transcripts from the first season of The West Wing to create a "checkpoint" that tries to simulate the style of the original text, but with new combinations of words. It's similar to the auto-complete feature in your text messages or gmail, but GPT-2 is able to predict several sentences at a time with quite good accuracy.

Most of the script (99-ish%) was written by the model, with guidance from myself to keep it from going off the rails.

I believe in the very near future, we will all have access to a "virtual writer's room" that will allow us to work with our favorite authors and thinkers, living or dead.

About me:

I'm very interested in the intersection of art and technology. I like to think about how technology will evolve to enable humans to create new art. I am working on a documentary titled "Models for the Masses" in which I attempt to show how the adoption of machine learning by the masses will revolutionize the world in much the same way that the mass adoption of personal computing and the internet changed the world in the last thirty years.
